Common Questions
What is a trial and do I need one?
While a trial is optional, it’s a wise idea to have a test run and be certain that you are happy with the look for your big day.
Sometimes the look that brides-to-be, see and love on others, does not translate well on themselves.
A trial will help to clarify the look that will help show off your best features and minimise those you'd rather hide.
Does my bridal party need a trial?
It’s not common for the bridesmaids or mother of the bride to have a trial as their makeup tends to be softer and less of a focus. However it can be done and if a bridesmaid requests a trial it’s usually done at their own expense.
Where is the trial held?
Trials are held at Glowtique Studio, Hamilton
When should I have my trial?
Generally, 1 – 3 months before the wedding is the optimal time for a trial. This prevents big changes occurring such as skin tone, skin condition or weight which might effect your chosen look.
Many brides-to-be choose to have their trial before their hens party or other special event. It’s a great way to ensure that your look is budge proof and long lasting.
Can I invite a friend to my trial?
Yes you can invite a friend however we don’t encourage more than one as our studio space is limited.
How long should I allow for my trial?
Allow 1.5 hours to have time to discuss and try your makeup options.
How should I prepare for my trial?
Keeping a collection of looks that you like is extremely helpful when it comes to discussing makeup at your trial.
Pinterest or other social media collection apps are a great way of capturing ideas. It’s ok to collect completely different looks, but keep in mind that not all styles may suit you perfectly—however don’t be alarmed—we can alter looks to come up with a solution that flatters you most—this is what the trial is for.
I have sensitive skin, can you help me?
We have specialist products for sensitive skin. Be sure to tell us at your trial about your allergies to any particular ingredients or product.
Do you have traditional or airbrush makeup? What will suit me?
This comes down to personal preference and the look that you prefer. It’s best to discuss these techniques with your Glowtique expert during your trial.
Do you travel to my wedding location and is there a fee?
To make it more convenient for you on your wedding day, we travel with our kit to you. For this a travel fee is added. The cost of this will depend on your location.
How long will my makeup last? What brands do you use?
Your makeup will last and glow all day through into the evening without needing touch ups—with the exception of lips. We only use premium brands like Chanel; Fenty; Mac; Estée Lauder; Laura Mercia; Bobbi Brown; Stila; Nars; Too Faced; Urban Decay Naked; and other special collections.
Are false eyelashes helpful?
False eyelashes can feel a little uncomfortable for the first ten minutes if you have never worn them—but that discomfort usually goes away quickly.
False lashes are creative more glamorous for evening looks. They add a finishing touch and show up beautifully at a distance and in photography.
If you don’t like false lashes you can also opt to have lash extensions done.
How should I prepare my skin?
Treat yourself with a facial, including any brow grooming, a week before.
Then the night before, lightly exfoliate and use a hydrating moisturiser.
In the morning use a gentle face wash. Avoid any sunscreen product as this causes a pale flashback in photography.
Avoid sunburn. Keep hydrated, exfoliate your lips.
How long will I need for makeup on the wedding day?
It’s best to schedule in 1.5 hours per person, allowing extra time if any kind of complexity is involved. This can be confirmed after your look is settled at your trial.
How far in advance should I book my wedding makeup?
It’s best to book your wedding makeup as soon as possible as dates fill up fast.
