Caring for your needling treatment afterwards
The outcome of your skin treatment is not determined by the procedure alone. To maximise the best outcomes you'll need to carefully prepare your skin before treatment and apply special care after treatment.
BEST PRACTISE FOR BEST RESULTS
The Glowtique guide to self care post needling treatment
Please carefully study the following to care for your skin after treatment. Not doing so may hinder your final results.
ON THE FIRST DAY
- Do only clean your skin with mild, low active ingredient wash suitable for sensitive skin.
- Do be very gentle and avoid rubbing the treatment area. Rinse with cool water and lightly pat dry with paper towel.
- Do wash your hands before you touch your treatment area.
- Do disinfect your mobile phone before you hold it to your skin.
- Do not apply makeup for three days, especially avoid using dirty makeup brushes.
- Do avoid activities that induce excessive sweating including swimming or saunas.
- Do not expose yourself to the sun. Wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen to protect your treatment area.
FOR ONE WEEK
- Do avoid using anti-inflammatory medication
- Do not scratch, rub or peel while the treatment area heals.
- Do not use Clarisonic or other powered cleansing brushes for at least one week after your treatment
- Do resume your normal skin care routine after three days.
IF YOU EXPERIENCE UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS
Skin needling therapy is minimally invasive and very low risk. Occasionally, side effects can escalate and require medical attention. Contact your Glowtique expert if you experience any of the following:
- Fever over 38ºC
- Nausea
- Hives
- Yellow or green discharge
- Bleeding
You may be given special instructions or be forwarded to seek professional medical treatment.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH NEEDLING TREATMENTS
The process for needling healing changes over the course of time. It can cause alarm if you don't know what to expect. To learn more about this process please read on below.
What to expect with needling treatments
Day 1 – 5
TIME FOR SELF CARE
Your skin will look more pink. It will feel tight and dehydrated. This will cause any fine lines to appear more visible due to trans-epidermal water loss. This generally lasts for up to three days.
You can use a cooling mask to reduce inflammation and redness and to help your skin feel more comfortable.
Be sure to drink plenty of water, eat well and get quality sleep.
It is important to cease use of any skin care products with active ingredients such as retinol, alpha hydroxyl acids and vitamin C.
Day 6 – 14
NEW BEGINNINGS
Things begin to look normal but much is still going on beneath the surface layer of skin.
Once you enter the fibroblastic phase you can add more options to help support the new tissue formation. Growth factors and collagen stimulating peptides are fantastic ingredients at this point of healing.
You can also add back other products into your skincare routine such as:
- Green tea
- Hyaluronic acid
- Antioxidant serum
- Moisturisers with ceramides, shea butter and squalene.
Day 15 – 28
PATIENCE PAYS OFF
Two weeks after your skin needling session will feel like a long time. It's important to be patient as your body is working hard to build new cells and create profound changes to the collagen structure.
Now you have a lot more flexibility in your skincare choices. Keep up a good skin care routine but feel free to add:
- Retinol products
- Vitamin C
For optimal results we recommend a minimum of three treatments every four to six weeks.
