Preparing for your treatment

Strict Sun & Heat Avoidance

4 weeks prior

Strict sun exclusion. - Rigorous, absolute avoidance of all direct sun exposure. Use a broad-spectrum that includes Iron Oxides (a tinted physical sunscreen)

Avoid tanning beds, and all self-tanning products (creams, sprays) on the treatment area. Tanned skin significantly increases the risk of complications and reduces the laser's effectiveness. You must be completely tan-free.

Hormonal & Internal Review

Consult during your initial consultation

Review Hormonal Triggers: Inform your clinician of any current use of Oral Contraceptives or Hormone Replacement Therapy. Adjustments or discontinuation may be recommended in consultation with your primary physician.

Discontinue Topical Irritant (i.e. Skincare)

2 weeks prior

Cease use of all active, harsh, or exfoliating products on the treatment area, including Retinoids (Retin-A, Retinol), and active chemical exfoliants

No Aggressive Treatments

2 weeks prior

Refrain from waxing, threading, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or injectables (Botox/Filler) in the treatment area. Please discuss the timing of any injectables with your therapist.

Medication Review

Ongoing

Inform your Glowtique therapist of all oral and topical medications you are currently taking. Certain medications can increase sun sensitivity or bruising and may need a temporary pause.

Avoid /Blood Thinners: Discontinue (like Ibuprofen), high-dose Vitamin E, and Fish Oil supplements. (with your doctor's approval).

Take antivirals (if history). Prevents Flare-Ups: If you have a history of cold sores, start prophylactic antiviral medication as instructed by your clinician.

Use Prescribed Skin Lightener

Consult during your initial consultation

During the initial consultation, a detailed plan and prescription will be discussed to stabilise the pigment. This skin lightener should be used for 4-8 weeks before laser treatment.

Hydration & Health

2–3 days prior

Boost your internal hydration by drinking plenty of water. Well-hydrated skin heals faster and responds better to laser energy.

Appointment Day

Day of

Arrive with the treatment area freshly cleansed and completely free of all makeup, lotions, oils.

Absolute Contraindications and Eligibility

  • Pregnancy and Nursing: Treatment is strictly contraindicated if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Age: Patients must be 18 years of age or older to consent to treatment (or minors with explicit medical and parental approval).
  • Active Infections/Wounds: The treatment area must be completely free of any open wounds, active infections, cold sores, or dermatitis. Prophylactic antiviral medication may be required if you have a history of cold sores.
  • Systemic Medications/Implants: Treatment is contraindicated if you have taken oral Isotretinoin (Accutane) within the last 6 to 12 months or if you have metal implants (including screws or plates), or a history of gold therapy directly within the area to be treated, due to the risk of heating the metal.
